Resident Testimonials

CREC’s Teacher Residency Program allowed me to fully immerse myself into the role of a teacher. Unlike any other teacher certification program, working alongside my mentor teacher for an entire school year has increased my ability, confidence, and toolkit needed to be both culturally relevant and equitable. I couldn’t imagine being part of any other program besides this one. CREC’s TRP is committed to equipping me to be an educator that is fully invested in changing the lives of students, one classroom at a time.

At this point in the program, I already feel confident enough to take over my classroom. I have learned so much in such a short time and I am excited to keep learning more!

The Connecticut Teacher Residency Program has granted me the opportunity to develop and practice effective pedagogy in real time. After completing a full school year, receiving daily coaching in the classroom paired with a rigorous curriculum, I feel more than confident in my ability to create a safe and equitable learning environment for all students.

Being a young African American male from a marginalized community my only dream has been to give back to the community that has given me so much. I feel there is no better time than now. TRP will allow me to let these young kids that look like me know that they can spread their wings.

After working as a volunteer and teaching as a visiting artist, I saw a need in my community for more diversity in leadership positions. Specifically, the lack of multi ethnic perspectives in education. Art has a way of bridging that gap between cultures, showing both how similar and different we are. That awareness is what I want to bring; not only with my presence, or my experience, but with the skills I will learn from TRP.
